YAPOOS – ROD-SHAPED SIN (BOUJOU NO TSUMI) [1995]

lyrics by JUN TOGAWA | music by NOBUO NAKAHARA

Probably my favorite song off of Like an Archangel, which I generally consider to be the weakest of the Yapoos albums. Though I am generally a sucker for anything with the theme of sin in it, just because of my ex-Catholic nature.

Translation and notes under the cut:

You, seething with pathos
Lethal weapon, rod-shaped sin in hand
You wail inside me
Like the stormy sea on a jet-black night
To be human, to be human itself is a sin
That original sin, behind timeless closed doors
Heat and humidity

A rod-shaped sin that swallows up the stigma of dependency
Close your eyes
Like two animals, lost children
On the path of depravity
Forever onward
All the while lusting after the forbidden fruit
That original sin, burning behind empty closed doors
Heat and humidity

The night is a beast knowing neither virtue nor corruption
As we starve we will become
Shameless brutes
Of course, was that a rare piece by Velázquez?
Ah, for some reason, when I think about it, my tears won’t stop flowing

You, firing pathos
Soul, liquid sin in hand
It’s high tide inside me
And the ultramarine night steadily grows lighter
To be human, to be human itself is a sin
That original sin, left behind silent closed doors

The night is a beast knowing neither morals nor ethics
As we continue to starve we will become
Shameless brutes, and
Ah, the voice of Augustus condemns us two
Us two, who know not how to give up
And who keep piling sins upon ourselves
