YAPOOS – THE STRANGER INSIDE ME [WATASHI NO NAKA NO TANIN] (1991)

lyrics by JUN TOGAWA | music by TOSHIRO SENSUI

The B-side to “Men’s Junan” and a tale of a lover scorned. Togawa plays with some of her common themes on this – ideas of the self, having other people inside you, things like multiple personalities. More than anything else, it’s a metaphor for how much one can change once they’re scorned.

Translation and notes under the cut:

I saw you with
That girl with the pixie cut
You weren’t supposed to be apart from me
And now danger is coming fast
You should run
Right now
From me

WOW WOW WOW
My dusk-colored blood makes
A strange noise as it starts to move
Oh, the person inside me I loathe
Awakens from the darkness
Run away
Ah
Right now
From me

Please
Because I
Love you
Get out now

The baby and heel change places (1)
WOW WOW WOW I NEVER FORGIVE YOU
It’s not a joke, I’ll never forgive you
As my judgement I’ll castrate you
I won’t let you escape
From my grasp

HATE YOU
But I
Loved you
It’s my judgement
HATE YOU
HATE YOU
Run away

1: Wrestling terms. The “babyface,” also known as the “baby,” is the good-guy wrestler, and the “heel” is the bad-guy wrestler.
