JUN TOGAWA – LOVE AS A SHAPE [ZUKEI NO KOI] (1985)

lyrics and music by TOSHIRO SENSUI

Off of the seminal Suki Suki Daisuki, this track is considered one of the key examples of Togawa’s anti-idol persona from the mid-80s, and the music and lyrics with their retro-futuristic tones are reminiscent of Halmens tracks, perhaps partially because of Sensui’s involvement in the song.

Translation and notes under the cut:

Hey, look at me
I’m oh so free

And I’m embedded in your heart

Like a jigsaw puzzle
Put me together how you want
In whatever shape you like
I’ll strike your favorite pose
In your favorite color
I’m so tricky
Shape, love as a shape is three-dimensional
Shape, love as a shape is three-dimensional
And with a geometric dance
You’re my prisoner

Hey, look at me
I’m oh so free
And I’m embedded in your heart

Like a jigsaw puzzle
Put me together how you want
In whatever shape you like
I’ll strike your favorite pose
In your favorite color
I’m so tricky
Shape, love as a shape is three-dimensional
Shape, love as a shape is three-dimensional
And with a geometric dance
You’re my prisoner

Shape, love as a shape is three-dimensional…
